Greetings from Sacramento
Two years ago in Riccione, Italy, Sacramento was awarded the 2011 WMA Championships. We'd like to extend a personal invitation to the athletes of the world to join us two years from now for an unforgettable experience.
Sacramento has the facilities and organizational experience to deliver on the promise we made to the WMA Council. From the USA National Junior Olympics to the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, the athlete has always come first at our championships. We’ll adhere to the same philosophy at the 2011 WMA Championships.
Sacramento’s weather is virtually ideal for athletics. We receive no rain in July, and our warm days and cool nights create conditions that are conducive to standout performances in the sprints, hurdles, distance races and field events.
You can’t beat our location, either. Sacramento is close to some of the most stunning scenery in the world – Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Napa Valley’s vineyards and the Monterey Peninsula’s coastline.
You can learn more about Sacramento at www.discovergold.org, and we will keep you updated at www.wma2011.com as the event draws nearer.
Sincerely,
John McCasey

Another Gold Rush for Sacramento
Sacramento is the capital of California, the most populous of the 50 United States. The city’s modern history began in 1839, when a Swiss pioneer named Johan Augustus Sutter settled at the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers. The discovery of gold in 1848 just 40 miles (64 km) east put Sacramento on the map overnight.
Sacramento is located 90 miles (145 km) northeast of San Francisco. The city has 460,000 residents; the greater metropolitan area has a population of 1.9 million. There are approximately 12,000 hotel rooms in the Sacramento region.
Popular Sacramento attractions include the state Capitol, the Old Sacramento Historic Area, the California State Railroad Museum and the Crocker Art Museum.
The two rivers provide excellent boating and rafting opportunities. Sacramento also offers a wide variety of affordable, championship-style golf courses. For more information about Sacramento, visit www.discovergold.org.
